Just for Mamas: Journaling for Moms in the Mama Mode App
After the birth of my first baby, I was completely in love, overwhelmed, and exhausted by motherhood. I was baffled (and frankly kind of annoyed) by suggestions to make time for “self-care.” Caring for the tiny human was enough, thank you very much. Self-care meant going to the bathroom alone and sleeping for 30 minutes in between feeds. But truthfully, I needed to quiet my mind. When I was tired but couldn’t sleep, I started to write down my thoughts on my phone and I found it helped, but sometimes I’d end up staring at a blank screen unable to get the words out. Journaling with Mama Mode became a source of comfort during those early days (and nights) and has become a valuable part of my routine in each season of motherhood. Journaling for moms can provide a myriad of benefits whether it’s for just a few minutes in the morning, on your lunch break, or after bedtime.
The Benefits of Journaling for Moms
I readily admit that I was a journaling skeptic, but after a few days, I started looking forward to it. I was excited to write it all down- the good, the bad, the messy, all of it. A few reasons why I love it:
Shake off the Stress
Your journal is yours to vent, rave, celebrate, complain-you name it. Putting thoughts to paper can help to process your emotions and bring down your stress level by naming what you’re feeling.
A Form of Self-Care
Taking time with your own thoughts allows you a few minutes to check in with yourself and unpack your day. We’re constantly checking on our kids, asking “How was your day?” “What gave you trouble on the test?” or, if you live in my house, “Why did you paint the entire table with yogurt?” Journaling is time to check on you.
Memory Keeping
I have a baby book, and I love keeping track of certain memories and milestones by hand. Journaling allows me to explore an even wider range of emotions and experiences than I’d keep in that book, and the convenience of journaling on my phone has helped create a habit that’s easier to keep.
Goal Setting (and Re-setting)
I’m a dreamer (which is great!) but journaling helps keep my feet on the ground by giving me the space to set goals along the way. And when things aren’t going to plan, I write that down, too.
How Mama Mode Makes Journaling Easy for Moms
Journaling in the Mama Mode app is a lazy mom’s dream -in the best way! Start by selecting the date for your entry (because sometimes we forget and need to log that major parenting win from last week,) make some selections based on how you’re feeling (or skip these altogether with the “next” button,) and follow the prompts to complete your journal entry. If there’s more you want to add, keep writing in your journal entry, or take it to the goals, lists, or reminders tools if your mind starts to wander – all in the Mama Mode app.

Tips for Making Journaling Part of Your Daily Routine

- Set a Daily Reminder: Toggle on journaling reminders from Mama Mode to get in the habit.
- Pair it with a Routine: Try journaling during a quiet moment, like after the kids go to bed or with your morning coffee. Making journaling part of an existing routine can help the habit stick.
- No Right Way to Journal: Journaling doesn’t have to be elaborate or follow any specific pattern. Write what you want to write and write what you feel. There’s no quiz at the end. This is for you!
